Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash – Girl From The North Country (1969)

Sometimes a song comes into your life at a certain time that feels right whilst at the same time making you slap yourself for not having been aware of such a beautiful collaboration. How in the hell could any self professed lover of popular music not have stumbled upon this song, even accidentally in their lifetime?

Like a newborn opening its eyes for the time, to be humbled by something that’s been in existence for decades as if it’s been waiting to enter your heart, your mind at the right moment when you can appreciate it the most and be startled all over again.

I reckon it’s safe to say that Dylan’s vocals here – in perfect contrast with Cash’s dark tones – are the closest he has ever come to being a crooner in the traditional sense.
