Woody Harrelson has long been one of Hollywood’s most under-rated actors and he gives one of his finest performances to date in Oren Moverman’s slow burning drama The Messenger as a Casualty Notification officer reluctantly taking a young Iraq draftee played by the always intense Ben Foster under his wing. Harrelsons turn here contains echoes of vintage Seventies era Jack Nicholson- think The Last Detail, to which some of the Messengers latter male bonding scenes share a similarly loose and unpredictable vibe. The folks over at Film Ireland have kindly printed my review online and you can read it here. The film opens in selected cinemas on Friday the 17th of June.
