>The Sweet Smell of Success (1957)

I’ve just realized the initial dialogue as written by Ernest Lehman and Clifford Odets in this scene here may appear insensitive at first but this was one of Tony Curtis’ finest roles, as ambitious, scurrilous New York press agent Sidney Falco under the thumb of powerful newspaper columnist JJ Hunsecker (Burt Lancaster) Alexander Mackendrick’s film is a one of a kind, a darkly cynical examination of how media, celebrity and corruption intertwine and thrive in big city life, in this case 1950’s New York.
